Marathon under 380 meters for three years
The great marathon of Manchester was shorter for three consecutive years due to an error in the measurement path and so was declared invalid, affecting more than 24,000 athletes.
The unusual first occurred in 2013, when the UK Association of Racing measurement (AUKCM) was off by 380 meters to the marathon route. Since then, the proof of 2013, 2014 and 2015 was slightly shorter.
The measurement test is usually done with an odometer on a bicycle. The AUKCM admitted that there was a calibration error in one of the bicycle wheels.
In a statement the responsible Association apologized to those affected and confesses he was "sorry" for the mistake.
The error has been corrected and the test this year will again have all of 42.195km.
